General
- All new volunteers are assigned a mentor who will guide you through the process of joining and provide on-going support and advice
Roles
- Adult members begin as Aiders, riding on live ambulance calls, assisting with patient care and transport
- After gaining some experience, Aiders can go on to become drivers and EMTs
Training
- All training is free and provided by CVAC
- Initial training includes the operation and location of equipment in the ambulance
- CPR and First Aid certifications at CVAC
- Driver training involves and 10 hrs of additional driving and classroom training. Must be 21
- EMTs must complete a NY State course (about 140 hours) and pass a state exam. These classes are given at local colleges and hospitals
Commitment
- A minimum of one 6-hour shift each week, all year
- Monthly membership meetings where we discuss protocol updates and CVAC business
- 2 Tuesday evening “Rig Check” meetings per year, supervising the Youth Corps as they restock supplies on the ambulance
