Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corps

Join the Adult Corps

This is a great opportunity for anyone to contribute to the community

CVAC volunteers are your neighbors. You can become one too!

  • Applications are accepted any time
  • No experience or background in emergency care is necessary
  • Flexible hours – you will schedule your own shifts
  • Flexible location – you can be on call from your home or anywhere within a few minutes from town

  • All new volunteers are assigned a mentor who will guide you through the process of joining and provide on-going support and advice

    • Adult members begin as Aiders, riding on live ambulance calls, assisting with patient care and transport
    • After gaining some experience, Aiders can go on to become drivers and EMTs

    • All training is free and provided by CVAC
    • Initial training includes the operation and location of equipment in the ambulance
    • CPR and First Aid certifications at CVAC
    • Driver training involves and 10 hrs of additional driving and classroom training. Must be 21
    • EMTs must complete a NY State course (about 140 hours) and pass a state exam. These classes are given at local colleges and hospitals

    • A minimum of one 6-hour shift each week, all year
    • Monthly membership meetings where we discuss protocol updates and CVAC business
    • 2 Tuesday evening “Rig Check” meetings per year, supervising the Youth Corps as they restock supplies on the ambulance
